Find the Right Job for You

Jobs are not easy to find in today's economy but we all want to be doing something we love.

Some people like to work outdoors, in all sorts of weather. Others are great working with people. Still others enjoy working with animals. Our different skills and preferences make us qualified for different careers.

In high school we are given aptitude tests to gage what types of careers we are best suited for. Later we may find that those careers are not to our liking. So what do you do when you find that you cannot stand the career field you chose to pursue?

1. Determine what it is you all ready love doing.

2. Investigate the job online. Talk to people who have been doing it a long time.

3. Ask if you can shadow someone for a few days to see the ups and downs of it first hand.

4. Speak with a guidance counselor at your local community college or university to see
what the job market is like and where it is going. There may be changes others are not
aware of.

5. Start volunteering your time at places of interest that may be added to your resume.

Will the economy recover in 2009?

I have read that some people believe the economy will begin to recover in 2009.

I have also read that the economy will not due to the fact that people want to save their tax refunds or spend them on old debt.

What did you spend your tax refunds on last year? I can tell you: my ex's old student loans. That's right, the government high-jacked it. I was all set to pay down my credit card and WHAM! Got the door slammed right in my face. Apparently, unless you file injured spouse, they can take whatever your spouse owes and apply your money to their debt. I was not too happy about that at all.

It would have gone to my old debts instead. Doctor's bills, a credit card...maybe a car loan...these are the things people need to pay on that aren't necessarily at the top of the list like rent and your energy bill.

Considering the depth of the economic problems, I am not sure a tax rebate or suped-up refunds will do any good this year. It may ease some slack at the pump or heat your house a little while longer but I don't think it will get people into the malls, out to the festivals or going on vacations to Disney World.

I do believe that they are taking the right steps in re-evaluating bankruptcy and mortgage loans.

I do shiver at the thought that 2009 may be another rough year.

New President Brings Good Changes

We all know that Bush is the oil man.

I am so happy he is out of office. I have to admit, I wasn't a 100% Obama Mama. I would have rather it had been Clinton but you will hear no complaints from me. Gas prices are down. Let's hope they stay down.

I live in a shopping mecca and still we struggle to find work. It's unfortunate but maybe with the decrease in gas prices there will be an increase in demand in other areas which will stimulate the economy.

For those of you who are strapped, hold on tight, we will make it through. I feel the pressure of lack of funds daily, as I have children who have needs. School activities, diapers, clothes...those are only a few things that I struggle with.

I think as the year goes on, despite what the economists say, we may see things get a little brighter. Jobs are scarce, true. It will be a long time before we have a surplus of money in the national budget. I still have hope. Obama has given me some hope.
